Should a leaning retaining wall be repaired or replaced?+
It depends on the wall system and why it moved. Significant lean, failed base, or missing drainage often makes a proper rebuild more durable than a surface repair.
Why do retaining walls fail?+
Common causes include poor base preparation, trapped water, inadequate backfill, weak edge conditions, and loads the wall was not designed to carry.
Can you add steps while rebuilding the wall?+
Yes. Integrating steps during the wall design usually creates a cleaner transition and allows the base and drainage details to work together.
Do all walls need engineering?+
Requirements depend on height, loading, slope, site conditions, and local rules. Elzo identifies when engineering or permitting should be part of the plan.
